THE GOLDEN WEDDING - NOV 14th 2009 !

Kristin & James were married on saturday Nov 14th 2009 ! What a fantastic reception from the dancing to the decor ! I usually dont blog about weddings but all the hard work that went into the wedding by the bride and her planners I felt had to be recognized ! Kristin hired a trio of ladies that call themselves For Such a Time , lets see if I get this correct there is Jacqui , Diann & Maria ! They executed every last detail to a tee - We were very impressed with you ladies and hope to work with you again ! The theme was centered around sweets ! The did a really cute table assignment where the guest got lollipops and wach table was named and had candy of the name on the table ! The cake was designed by a dear friend of Kristin and it was gorgeous and yummy -

Did I mentioned they had our photobooth for some fun pics ! Everyone loved the booth and of course we got some great shots of people in the photobooth !

Im finally getting around to add some of the fun pictures our photobooth captured at Melanie & Chris wedding on Oct 24th 2009 at Seville ! We had such a wonderful time at your wedding and enjoyed working with Mary from Photos By Mary and Erin at Inspired Events and the  KOOL staff from Seville !
I loved your theme with the wine corks and the wine bottles you gave out as favors ! First class all the way !

I loved the idea that once the wedding reception was over it was on to more fun and the stretch hummer came and swooped all the fun people up and the party continued ! Now those pictures of the after party would be fun to see ! It was so nice to meet you both and Juan & I enjoyed being able to help you have a fun wedding event!

Ok these guys were so funny and they were from Cleveland and were old neighbors to the bride ! They get my vote for top 10 favorite photobooth pictures that have come out of our booth !

ALL ABOUT THE RAVEN AT SOUTH MOUNTAIN -

THE RAVEN AT SOUTH MOUNTAIN FOR WEDDINGS - We are thrilled to be added to the list of preferred professionals by The Raven for weddings and events here ! What a wonderful place to have a wedding and the backdrop of the golf course is absolutley stunning ! We recently entertained at a wedding here for Melissa & Kevin Varner who were married on Oct 17th 2009 ! It was a gorgeous day and the ceremony took place on the golf course with a string quartet playing in the background!  The cocktail hour followed up in the lounge area where guest listened to jazz and the couples favorite songs ! The room was decked out in hanging pink & white lanterns and candles were lit ! After the cocktail hour was over the guest are moved to an stunning open air tent that overlooks the golf course and a huge waterfall ! The room again was decorated with pink & black decor and the centerpeices were dome by one of our favorites FLOWER POWER WEDDINGS in chandler. Jenny is a remarkable florist and has great prices and does a wonderful job !  Juan had a wonderful time as the Emcee/Dj that night and enjoyed for the first time having an deaf interpretor for the evening since the bride does that for a living !

Our photobooth was a hit - Even the staff had so much fun getting into and taking some fun photos at the end ! Az Celebrity Dj is looking forward to some more fun weddings at the Raven !

Please tell us about the RAven and its Location ?

The Raven is a unique wedding venue, unlike any other in the valley. We have over 6,000 imported pines, water features, and rolling fairways which provides a scenic backdrop for your wedding.

Laura - Tell us about yourself and why you love working at The Raven ?

I have been working at The RAven for about 2 years now, and really love it!

Not only do I get to work with an amazing staff but I have a unique venue centrally located with some of the most bueatiful backdrops in the valley !

What is the Craziest wedding Story you can share with us ?

HAHA well I have plenty of crazy stories from our weddings , the most memorable one , was when one of my wedding guest , after drinking a bit to much , decided to go for a swim in the water feature on the 18th green.  He for some reason thought it would be a good idea to take a dip in the pond , while his friends stood alongside watching and laughing.  NO DAMAGE WAS DONE. Thankfully !

What tip do you have for brides who maybe reading this ?

I always tell my brides there is no reason to stress on all the details , thats why I am here at The RAven to help them plan their wedding of their dreams ! And always try and have fun with it !

So Im on my normal afternoon break from our kiddos while all of them are at school doing what all other moms do , run errands, grocery shop , stop for coffee , get gas - I walk in to Bashas and I get a coffee and I head over to the Magazine aisle to pick up the latest wedding Magazines to see whats going on or what I have missed out on or just to catch up on new trends ! Im flipping through AZ Finest Wedding Magazine Sites and Services and I see one of our Couples featured in a double layout all about their wedding ! kelley 7 Chris were married March 29th 2008 at The Phoenix Country Club and it was a gorgeous wedding reception! We had met them at Kelley's cousins wedding in Gilbert a few months earlier and they ended up booking our company ! Congrats for making the magazine for one of the Top weddings of 2008 ! We were thrilled to be part of that day ! Pick up a copy at Bashas and check it out !

BAR & BAT MITZVAHS - THE MEANING AND EVENTS

Ok so I thought I would write a few things about one of the events we do here and there and give some background to many of you who have never been to a Mitzvah or some may never have heard of one !   Stephanie has been to many Mitzvahs since part of my family is jewish and this is a custom thing we do when a boy or a girl turns 13 !
In the Jewish religion it is customary when a boy or a girl turn 13 they have a ceremony marking that they are older and that they are responsible for the choices they make in life and also in the religion they follow. If you are a boy you are having a BAR MITZVAH and if you are a girl you are having a BAT MITZVAH. The Ceremony usually involves the young person being called to read the Torah and depending on what type of congregation they belong to the young person might also say a few things during a special service. They are also responsible for following the jewish laws now on their own versus the parents being responsible.
One thing I read but do not know for a fact that its true is that they can be legally married according to the jewish law ! Dont worry no one in our family has ever been  married at 13 !

The Ceremony usually is in the morning where all the religious things are done and is followed at night with a big party. Some Mitzvahs are themed or have a room for adults and then a room for kids ! There is always a meal for everyone to eat  offered with a Motzi ( blessing & cutting Haleh Bread) and then there is a candle lighting ceremony - This can be done at the service but many people do it now at the party and how it works is the girl or boy will have 13 people that are important in their lives come up and light a candle and he or she will say a few words on who they are or who they represent to him !

Also traditional Dances as in The Hora - I love the Hora Its so much funand you do not have to be jewish to do it ! The Dj gets everyone in a few circles and we put the Birthday boy/girl in the middle and they start to the right and the go to the left - 10 men or as much as it takes to lift  the birthday boy in a chair a few times !

Watch it on You Tube so you will know it if you are ever invited to a Mitzvah ! Anyway I thought this would be something fun to write about since we do Mitzvahs from time to time !

THE QUESTION IS ASSIGNED SEATING OR OPEN SEATING ( WE GET ASKED THIS ALL THE TIME )

OK BRIDES - Here is one of the questions we get asked about a lot in meetings and I thought I would share our view or expertise on the subject !

Should we do assign seating ? There are many different views on the subject but from a vendor view we would say YES !

Imagine you are have just planned  the most important day of your life and you want it to be perfect and go off with no problems ! You have invited 200 of your closest family and friends to a place they have never been to and a wedding where they do not know everyone !

Imgaine the ballroom is set with all the perfect linen and decor and it opens and there is no assigned seating - Well first of all family members end up  not getting a good view of the couple or prime seats with open seating ! Then you say well I will do reserve seating for a few tables - Great but here is the next problem -   Your parents and his parents get their tables but what about all those relatives that say we are family why are we sitting way in the back - This happens over and over and they are upset and want the planner or the dj or photographer to start asking people to move around so they can be closer -

Especially at a Latin or a ethnic wedding we highly suggest that assign seating is done only the fact is that people do get upset and want to be close to the newlyweds for thier big day ! Make sure and also give a seating list to your coordinator or your dj so when your guest can not find their seats we will have a list to help them find it !

This assign seating does not have to be a difficult thing to do - You get can pick up place cards at Target or at a local paper store in your area ! There are several websites you can go to that has ideas for this ! Even ask your venue sales lady what they have seen that works !

9/11/09 - we will never forget our friends !

Today brings much sad memories for our home ! Many people who do not know us well would never know that I flew for United for 10 years as a flight attendant out of Los Angeles ! When I left I left due to having children and not  feeling 100% safe onboard and knowing I had 2 small children at home  I decided to leave United which was a very hard decision ! On days like 9/11 I remember all my friends who I met over the years and the fun layovers and the jumpseat gossip we shared for so long ! I miss them dearly and I pray for all of you to get through this horrible day in the history of our country and United !   Keep your heads high and fly safe !  I remember where I was the day it happened and the feeling of my first trip back after 9/11 had happened and they had gotten the planes repositioned  for air travel to start again ! You could hear a mouse in the aisle - People did not say much or really just kept to themselves !   It was such a weird feeling and to think about it all these years later it still brings back those feelings I felt !

OUR FRIENDS JESSICA & JASON WEDDING ! WE LOVE YOU GUYS !

Juan' Best Friend Jason who he has know for years finally found the perfect one for him * JESSICA*  We just love her and Garret and could not be happier for them and can't wait to meet little Addison who is on the way !  Juan was so honored to be the best man at the wedding on Monday !  He had such a wonderful time meeting everyone's families and getting to know old friends and see people he had not seen in years !  Jessica's parents hosted a dinner on Saturday night at their lovely home overlooking the Pacific Ocean and had a taco chef come in a grill up taco's for all  the guest ! Sunday all the boys headed to Dodgers stadium via a rented bus to watch the Dodgers lose to the San Diego Padres - I know they had probably too much fun courtesy of a guy named Kurt ! Kurt gave a good show to all the fans and somehow got kicked out a few times at the ballgame ! The next day was the wedding at Occasions in El Segundo ( Jennifer the coordinator was awesome ) What a cute place to have a wedding and the garden was amazing that they have !

WE MET WITH BETH ON FRIDAY FOR HER DETAILS MEETING WITH US AND SHE STARTED TO ELABORATE AND DISH ON ALL THE DIFFERENT EVENTS THEY WERE HAVING ! I HONESTLY  I COULD NOT KEEP TRACK AND WAS SO WISHING I WAS A GOOD FRIEND SO WE COULD BE ON THE GUEST LIST OF ALL THESE  FUN SOUNDING EVENTS THEY ARE PLANNING OR HAVE HAD !

Your Most Memorable wedding ?

Joe worked a wedding where the groom was a no show for the reception but did attend the ceremony . He said it turned out fine because the bride was formerly the grooms psychiatrist and told me at the reception that he was barely able to make it to the church ceremony , various family members stood in for all the important special events at the reception. Everyone had a great time !

SIGNATURE DRINKS - ARE FUN AND SHOW YOUR PERSONALITY:)

Signature drinks are quite common at weddings we see and are fun and festive and can help you personalize your wedding and even save money ! Sometimes we see a sign framed at the bar during cocktail hour that says something cute like try Jill & Matt's Secret Rum Runner - It will have a cute photo of a tropical drink to remind the guest to ask for their signature drink.

We also have had couples theme their cocktail hour and serve a drink that is common in the place where they intend to honeymoon and have us play music from also the place they will be honeymooning ! Example a few years back we had a wedding where the couple themed the cocktail hour around Jamaica and decorated the outside cocktail tables with sand and seashells and candles and we played steel drums and they served a Jamaican beer and some tropical drink ! It was fun and the guest really enjoyed themselves and some even commented that the atmosphere put them in a beach setting !

Signature drinks are also a good way to save money and cut down the bar cost if you choose to serve them during cocktail hour and limit a full bar for that hour ! You can choose a non - alcoholic drink and that will really cut cost or choose one with !

We had so much fun at the wedding last Saturday for Angela & Marco at The Castle next door to Ashley Manor ! The food was great provided by Lena's Catering in Gilbert ! Lena and her crew does a wonderful job on everything from Decor to Food to Flowers ! The castle was the perfect setting for a summer night ! The ceremony was held inside and there was a quick group photo of all the guest right after wards ! I thought it was really smart to get a going away shot of them right after the ceremony since they only had them until 10pm and the event would go much later ! Thats a cool idea for future brides to ask their photographer to doo this if they are limited on hours or coverage ! We played a slideshow during dinner that the Best Man had prepared as a gift ! It was great for all the guest to see the newlyweds growing up during the slideshow !

Im a very big fan of the look of the castle but I do suggest that you hire a wedding planner or a day of coordinator ( Regina @ Meant 2 Be Events) especially if you go with outside vendors from the list they provide!

The Reason why I can blog more -

The reason why we can blog more and really start sharing all the cool things we see and do at weddings ! Our 5 year olds twins started kindegarten and Stephanie has so much free time that this is one of the areas we really would like to focus on with our marketing is having a fun blog ! Mason & Makenzie attend a charter school in Queen Creek Az and are in seperate classes and loving it ! On the first day of school this week they line all the kids up and start walking them in the building and all you see is a sea of parents snapping photos of their little ones ! I got a little teary -eyed but then I realized hey thats more time I can blog and get things done with no kiddos around ! We hope you enjoy!

NEWS FLASH - AZ GOLF RESORT JUST ADDED US AS A VENDOR :)

we have some happy news to report that we were just added as a preferred vendor and AZ Golf Resort in Mesa - This property is located off Power and Broadway and has a gorgeous brand new ballroom and lake setting for for ceremonies and receptions! April K. is the wedding coordinator / sales lady there and can be reached at 480-832-3202 ! if you have not found a wedding venue yet this is a great location to stop by and visit ! Also on a side note they do have a great little bar that overlooks the golf course with great appetizers and drinks !
